Jesus, however, doesn’t fall for the devil’s tricks, unlike Macbeth. The witches simply told Macbeth that he was going to become King, Thane of Cawdor, and Thane of Glamis, which he already was. This made Macbeth think that if it was going to happen anyway, why not just hurry fate along a little bit, just like the witches and presumably the devil wanted. The weird sisters conveniently left out that part saying that if Macbeth becomes King, then the whole country will perish, and Macbeth will eventually die. Since the supernatural was not an uncommon thing talked about when this play was taking place, Macbeth believed that these sisters were psychics or just future telling witches, along with Banquo.…

Eventually, Macbeth started thinking of reasons why he should kill King Duncan just to make him feel better about himself. “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition which o’erleaps itself and falls on th’ other” (Act I, Scene 7 L. 25). At this point in the play greed was controlling Macbeth’s thoughts and actions and the only thing on Macbeth’s mind was dark ambitious desires. “Stars hide your fires, let not light see my black and deep desires” (Act I, Scene 4, L. 50). Without rest, his mind begins to become unhealthy, as it is not taken care of properly. He starts developing symptoms of insanity such as paranoia, when he overhears someone cry out murder in their sleep right after he kills Duncan: "There's one did laugh in's sleep and one cried 'Murder', / That they did wake each other; I stood, and heard them, / But they did say their prayers and address'd them again to sleep" (II,ii,25-27). Macbeth also shows signs of paranoia when he is told to "beware Macduff" (IV,i,70) and promptly orders for his entire family to be killed although there is no reason for him to do so: "Seize upon Fife; give to th'edge o'th'sword / His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls / That trace him in his line" (IV,ii,150-152). He does not make rational decisions anymore, instead "The very firstlings of my heart shall be / The firstlings of my hand" (IV,ii,146-147).…

    Good Vs Evil In Macbeth

The subject of good versus evil is a difficult concept to grasp, especially in the highly-acclaimed Shakespeare play, Macbeth. In this play, Shakespeare introduces the reader to the three witches who share the role of presenting Macbeth and Banquo with a prophecy. The common consensus would be that the witches are guilty because the prophecies they foretold prompted Macbeth to carry out the atrocities that he committed. This is a spurious claim however, as the witches never explicitly stated nor prompted Macbeth to commit any of his crimes. The witch’s prophecies merely fulfilled their role by telling Macbeth that he will be a king.…
