Factors the instructor should consider prior to the selection of an evidence-based teaching strategy include the knowledge level of the student, content being taught, and the student learning objectives for the presentation (Billings & Halstead, 2012). In this paper, the content being presented to a Med Surg I class is related to the care of a patient with a post-surgical wound infection. Successful completion of the course Fundamentals of Nursing is a pre-requisite to the Med Surg I course, thus the students are assumed to have acquired a fundamental knowledge base of the nursing practice prior to taking Med Surg I.
