I took the ACT in April. I received a composite score of 32, which is plenty high enough for the schools I want to attend. I reached this score with a variety of techniques, studying, and knowledge. Of course, I could always improve my scores, especially my Math score. Overall, I was successful on the ACT and I am happy with my scores. I was given a composite score of 32 on the ACT when I took it in April. In Science, I received a score of 35. I did not have time to read the last question, but other than that I stayed on time pretty well. In English, I received a score of 34. I was done well before the timer went off and I spent my extra time going over the questions I had already answered. In Reading, I received a score of 34. As with English, I finished early and went back to review. In Math, I received a score of 24. I did not read a lot of the questions because I ran out of time, but I did answer them all. My ACT scores meet and exceed what I need to get into my colleges of choice. I used a few techniques on the ACT to help me succeed. One that I used was to answer every question, even if you are going to come back to it. You never know when you will run out of time and be left with a blank answer. Another technique that I used, especially on the math section, was to answer …show more content…
My Math score, while above average, could have been a little higher. One thing that would have helped me on the ACT Math section was if I had had a chance to take Trigonometry before test time. My biggest barrier on the Math section was speed. I tend to work slowly on Math and as a result I ended up with 10 or more questions left when the timer went off. Because of my ADHD, I could also have applied for a time extension that would have helped me on the Math section. Considering how much I already studied the math before the test, I'm not sure how much more I could have gotten my Math score to go

That is something that I am not going to let slip by. If no change was made to my ACT scores I still will not reach my goals. My EPA scores are, on average, 17 out of 25 points. If this was put on a 36 point system, like the actual ACT, I would score 24 out of 36 points. This will do nothing for my time in high school.…

On the first day of high school, our teachers sat us down and had us practice the ACT. They wanted to see where we were at academically, and how they would need to get us to improve. From that day on, we would take a practice ACT test twice a month. By the time I took the actually ACT my junior year, I had probably taken the test maybe 30 times. I was so burnt out I just wanted to get it over with.…

What I learned about standardized testing is that it’s a test that requires all the test takers to answer the same questions or a selection of questions from common bank of questions. I also believe that if the score is in a standard manner, it makes it possible to compare the relative performance of individual students or group of students. I also learned that with a standardized test it an include true or false questions, short answer questions, essay questions, or a mix of these question types. In regard to his recommendation, I think that it is a good idea because it can be less stressful on the students and the teachers. When its “teaching to the test” the scores in different cities or states would always go down because the students would not be ready at all for them.…

Although this is not the first time taking an assessment like this, I am surprised my outcome has greatly improved. My score was 99, which for me means that I too have grown as a person. In the past I would hold strongly to my opinions and was not able to agree with others opinions or understand their worldview. However, for me with age and some hard life lessons I have had to learn how to listen more effectively as well, accept feedback, and respect others worldviews.…

Although there is an exuberant amount of research disproving that standardized tests are trustworthy and reliable, there are still people who stand behind it for multiple reasons. One reason as to why there are people and colleges who heavily trust the results of these scores is because so many kids take it, and according to statistical measures, the more people who participate in something, whether it be a survey or a test, the more accurate the yielded results are. Statistics states that in 2011, 1,666,017 students took the ACT and 1,664, 479 students took the SAT (Wikipedia). These massive numbers ensure that the test results produce generally accurate feedback that well represents the students that took the test. Another argument for the…

I am more than halfway through my high school years. What started out as a slow-paced marathon slowly became a 100m dash, and I am approaching the final third. Thus far, I couldn’t have asked for much more: my grades have been quite good, I’ve played soccer and baseball, ran track, joined several different clubs, helped out with Admissions, and many more. But, out-of-the-blue, I hear that these aren’t the only things that make a so-called “good student” in the eyes of colleges across the nation. Along with these activities, despite all of the stress and pressure that has been put on us just to maintain high grades and take challenging courses to fill up a resúme that could define our success later in life, colleges have the courage to say that they want more from us.…

The ACT is the most common entrance exam used today. It is a test student’s take to get into college, and is a requirement in most high schools to take before the students graduate. It is used to test what students have learned in high school and see what their potential is in the future. However, I think that the ACT test is unnecessary to take for college. As a result of ACT score requirements, many students with academic excellence are restricted, and are not allowed to attend college because of their feeble test taking skills.…

It becomes less exciting during your senior year when you must begin the actual processing of all requirements to begin college. I will explain the process of the journey. The main points crucial for an acceptance are picking the right test whether it be the SAT or ACT, having to take the Compass test as a first year student, and deciding on a major and degree. As a high schooler at Muscle Shoals, I was completely convinced that the ACT test controlled my future. Throughout my whole high school career, I wanted to attend the University of Alabama. However, the only way that would be possible for me was to score high enough on the ACT that I could get an academic scholarship. My teachers shoved the importance of the test down my throat as well as my fellow classmates. There was no questioning that the ACT became a number one focus as students began to work to achieve college acceptance as well as scholarships.…

In addition, people continue to argue that the ACT prepares students for college. For example, many feel as if when students prepare to take the ACT, they also learn effective test taking skills that will benefit them in college. For example, the ACT is a timed test and many people think this is a positive thing. People believe that giving the test a time limit teaches students how to react on their feet, and how to make decisions when there is not much time offered. Giving that the students are used to taking the timed test, they will have better success in college when taking exams.…
