Similarly, when appropriate steps are not taken or particular steps are skipped in an operational process failure often occurs. A clinical example of this is when a patient is about to be discharged from a hospital after breaking their right ankle with pins placed, the patient commonly asks questions evaluating what to expect at home with healing (step zero). Then once the patient is in their own environment, events and situations become true test (establishing keywords). Throughout the entire semester, I incorporated evidence based practice into my clinical days. Whether if I was performing a skill or if I was observing my nurse do a skill, I was thinking is this evidence based. I observed nurses use water instead of alcohol to clean an area on the skin before pricking a patient’s finger for a blood glucose check; this I knew was evidenced based. Some none evidence based thing that I observed were using 5/8inch needles when the nurse should have been using a 1inch length or not using two hands when assessing a patient’s fundus. I met my midterm goal of telling the nurse nicely that this is not what we learned in school.…

For evidence-base practice to be implemented there are many variables at play. First, the nurse leader needs to promote evidence-base practice by creating a positive culture, encouraging discussion at routine meetings, giving nurses the freedom to question how to do things differently, support staff in implementation by giving direction, and designating money in the budget and time for it. Plus, nurse leaders have the duty to verbalize the association of using evidence-base practice and achieving the organization’s mission with those throughout the organization (Huber,…

When evidence based practice is at the center of any organization, there is great improvement in practice and patient outcome. “Only 55% of the time, patients get the evidence-based practice needed for their plan of treatment (IOM 2001). The institute for healthcare improvement, launched 100,000 Lives Campaign enrolled more than 3,000 hospitals, representing an estimated 75 percent of U.S. hospitals beds, which implemented up to six evidence-based and life-saving interventions. In eighteen months, the campaign prevented an estimated 122,300 deaths through the implementation of these six evidence-based practices across the country.”…

Currently, I believe that most of the practices that I apply using knowledge obtained from class work as well as my personal research with scholarly work are evidence-based. At the same time, I think I also apply some practices in my work that might not be evidence-based in nature. For example, there are some instances when I am required to use the hospital to deal with certain clients such as implying religious elements to encourage them in their healing process, yet this does not apply in evidence-based approaches (Shaheen, et al.,…

Criminal Justice The field of Criminal Justice is an ever-changing discipline that has recently swelled in importance within the United States. This is most likely due in fact to our alarmingly high recidivism and incarceration rate, which is currently towering above the rest of the countries of the world. Credible resources are essential part of working in an academic field. Academics focus on primary resources, which means that the information is developed by original person working on the study, model or scholarly discussion. Furthermore, when reviewing information such as a literature review the information should offer the most consistent and strongest level of evidence for that topic (LoBiondo-Wood, & Haber, 2013). As the health care system is consistently changing, it is important for nurses to always be updating their knowledge about new information discovered that can lead to better patient care.…
