Evidence-based practice (EBP) is based on empiric knowledge gained by research outcomes (Chinn and Kramer, 2015). There are pros and cons to EBP in nursing. Some of the greatest benefits are the measureable improvement of outcomes for patients, providers and healthcare agencies (Grove, Burns, & Gray, p. 469, 2013). As new models of care are developed they are most likely based on evidence bases research outcomes that provide proof that changing the current system will create improvements in some way. EBP is supported by healthcare agencies such as the Joint Commission and The Magnet Recognition Program® because they promote high quality, cost effective care and meet other accreditation requirements (Grove, Burns, & Gray, p. 469, 2013).
