Quality healthcare and healthy aging are key components in transitioning through various phases of physical and mental health conditions. In order to improve standards of care, nurse educators will have to reevaluate the rigor in gerontology courses, simulation practices and clinical placement environments. Effective teaching methods could aid in the overall improvement in care of complex medical conditions, decrease mortality related to trauma, diminish the stigma associated with caring for older adults, and promote awareness of holistic care. Increasing knowledge in this practice area may help environments that hold a disproportionate number of registered nurses, who will help to develop and implement use of evidence based nursing practice.
