When critiquing a research article, it is crucial that the person or people reviewing the article utilize a framework to critically appraise the research. For this critique, Russell & Gregory’s Evidence-Based Nursing framework will be applied when examining the research presented in each article (2008). By following this framework, the following aspects will be addressed: the clarity and representation of the research question, the data collection process, and the appropriateness of the research design, sampling method, and data analysis (Russell & Gregory, 2008). Additionally, this critique will address the implications that each of the studies has for one’s personal nursing practice as well as nursing as a whole.

These EBP models include Funk’s Model of Research Dissemination, Stetler’s Model of Research Utilization and Evidence-Based Practice, DiCenso et al. Determining the strength of a nursing research study is a critical process that enhances the implementation of evidence-based practice. Determining the strength of a nursing research study ensures that the empirical knowledge developed through nursing research is useful in improving nursing care, the system of healthcare delivery, and patient outcomes. Additionally, nurses should use research findings when making clinical decisions on the best practice to use in order to deliver healthcare services that ensure all the patients receive safe and quality care (Melnyk et al. 2014). Therefore, determining the strength of a nursing research study helps to ensure the evidence is credible (valid and reliable) and is appropriate if incorporated into clinical practice.…

Health care is an ever evolving industry. Evidenced-based practice is a way of streamlining common treatments and care in order to improve patient outcomes. Evidenced-based practice uses the most up-to-date information, collected through research, to create guidelines for treating common diseases and disorders. These guidelines or clinical pathways are generated based on what treatment options were more efficient and cost-effective. In an effort to support evidenced-based practice and have it more widely accepted; nurses have developed nursing theories or models to help practitioners organize their way of thinking (OJIN, 2013).…
