The diabetes education is a multifaceted process and must address a variety of health principles related to prevention, maintenance, and treatment of this prevalent disease. Therefore, the diabetes educator must have well developed critical thinking skills accompanied by knowledge to promote and guide patients in self-management. For this reason, one should pose the question: Does the education focused on diabetes management makes a difference? Does it improve patients' glycemic control ultimately preventing many microvascular and macrovascular complications? Subsequently, these questions help me to realize if what I do matters. To support a particular evidence-based nursing practice, one must formulate a research question based on PICOT format; therefore, every letter of this acronym has as a defining purpose in a search. In that case, I will decode each letter of the PICOT acronym starting with letter "P" which represents "Population." The population exposes a group of subjects involved in a study and becomes an object of evidence-based practice question. Subsequently, the letter "I" stands for "Intervention" summarized as treatment provided to the group of subjects participating in the particular study ( Riva ). Conversely, a letter "C" indicates "Comparison" which identifies a group not experiencing intervention (Gulliver), where the "Outcome," the meaning of the letter "O," provides results after implementing a particular intervention.
