This functional status of the patients was measured using the Barthel index score. The variables being measured in this study were the skin care needs, what can be done in order to maintain a good skin health in elderly, and at what frequency is necessary the skin care to be done.
Data Collection - In this study, data was collected by using digital and written material by coordinators and nurses which were instructed about how to perform assessment and how to complete the forms. Each nurse involved in the study received a written data collection manual with all explanations of the tools and items. data was collected for each client by reviewing the client records, by interview and assessment. All the information were entered in standardized data collection forms and after completion, forms were sent to the research to be verified and analyzed. During data collection, the Barthel index was used to measure the functional status of the clients, this score being used in international research too, therefore, there is evidence supporting the validity of the German study (Kottner, 573). All responses were entered into a database. For every cleansing and leave-on product, they found a common term, such as “shower gel” for “Eucerin shower gel” or “Shower gel Sensilind”.
