(Structure of Beowulf)

Beowulf is a story about a viking who comes from a land far away, he sales to the king to ask if he could take care of a monster that has been terrorizing the village. When he goes to see the king he doesn’t bring any weapons in with him, he wants to show respect that he's here to help the village not hurt anybody. Vikings back in the old days where all about fighting and taking over land, so when Beowulf lands on there land they all get scared and think that they're under attack. The whole story is structured the same way. It starts with a speech and then the fighting with the monster and the speech after the fighting. During the night while everybody is sleeping Grendel’s mother is very upset that Beowulf kills Grendel so she comes during the night and takes the king's most important soldier. The king wakes up the next morning very upset and tells Beowulf about it and tell him that he needs to go and take care of her. The speech is the king freaking out about his most important soldier being dead and that something needs to be done about these attacks that keep happening. So Beowulf goes and suits up all in armor and takes weapons with him to fight Grendel’s mother. When he gets to the home of Grendel’s mother he sees that Grendel is laying there dead and isn’t alive anymore. He starts fighting with the mom and things almost end badly. Beowulf gets thrown around a lot and finds out the weapons that he brought to fight and kill Grendel’s mother won’t work against her because she is a witch and cast a spell on herself that makes it harder to kill her. Beowulf almost dies, but the moment that Grendel’s mother has Beowulf pined he finds a sword that's in the home and he takes it and slices Grendel’s mother's head off. He takes the head back to the castle to show that he did infact beat that monster too. The last thing after the fight is …show more content…
The structure for this last monster is just the same as the other two monsters. All three parts of this story are all set up the same way. They have the speech then the fighting with the monster than the speech at the end of the fighting when Beowulf kills the monster. This monster ends a little differently Beowulf doesn’t end up killing the monster the dragon ends up killing Beowulf. So the speech at the end of the fighting is going to be different from all the other speeches that Beowulf got. The speech before the fight is about how he was talking to his men about how this might be the last time he fights anything. Hes getting old and he needed men to help back him up because he couldn’t fight by himself .He listen to the king when he told him not to let his pride get in the way of needed help. So he talked to his men about how all these year he helped them and now it's time for them to do the same and help him fight this dragon. During the fight when all his men seen the dragon they all ran off scared of the big dragon. Beowulf was to fight the dragon alone and ended up not being able to fight the dragon. The dragon ended up biting Beowulf in the neck and he was dying. Wiglif was the only men of Beowulf that came back to help and he ended up killing the dragon. The final speech of this monster is of Beowulf talking to Wiglif about how he is so brave that he came back and took on that dragon himself to save Beowulf. It was to late to save
