A second sacred character Everyman faces is the sacred Angel at the end of the play. Following the structure of the religious ritual of confession at their deathbed, Everyman is faced with meeting the sacred Angel. Once Everyman accepts the fact that he is with Death in front of God making an account of his life, he is then accepted into the arms of the Angel. Upon entering his grave Knowledge and Angel speak. Angel states;
Come, excellent elect spouse, to Jesu!
Hereabove thou shalt go Because of thy singular virtue. Now the soul is taken the body fro,
Thy reckoning is crystal-clear.
Now shalt though into the heavenly sphere,
Unto the which all ye shall come That liveth well before the day of doom. (Everyman 894-901).
