In Teresa Acosta’s poem “My Mother Pieced Quilts”, Acosta uses imagery and figurative language to establish the quilt as a symbol of her mother’s love. The narrator is so overwhelmed by the imagery of her mother’s quilt that she goes on and bellowed that the memories “plunged [her] sobbing and laughing/into our past” (line 46-47). This lets the reader know that her mother quilt reflects imagery and love. The narrator is upset because her daughter in the story is disrespecting there house and heritage and acts like she doesn’t even want to be part of the family. Stated in the short story “When a cow comes nibbling around the edge of the yard, she snaps it and me and Maggie and the house (Pg.61). By her saying that she acts like they should be living in a way better place where there aren't animals around the house nibbling on stuff. She is just being self-centered, selfish, and inconsiderate that they aren’t a very rich family. Also what show that Dee is rude and disrespectful towards her family members is when she says “the scalding humor that erupts like bubbles in lye” (Pg.60). The shows us that the friends that Dee has worshiped what she has become, rather than being friends with her because of what she is as a person. By that, she didn’t respect her family enough to accept
