Everyday Social Norm Analysis

The everyday social norm that my friends and I were trying to violate simply had to do with the way that people act in a general retail store. Putting a little twist into just taking things from peoples carts, we instead would be walking by a person with a cart and purposely trip over their cart and dramatically fall to the ground. Also we would run into isles of pretty much anything that couldn’t break open. Generally just making a scene, something that you wouldn’t see on an every day basis.

I had a few of my friends do this with me for a couple reasons. One was so that we could record the actions for a good laugh and also so the people wouldn’t think that I was the weirdest human alive. These actions took place at our local Wal-Mart back in my …show more content…
So in this case, I didn’t have to hurt anyone’s feelings so my reactions were all positive. My friends and I could not stop laughing every time we ran into something or someone’s cart. The only pattern among these people that I noticed really stayed between the lines of caring about our fall or noticing it was sort of a prank and laughing and moving on. Either way we found it hilarious!

I think the ideas of social interaction are applicable to my study because if you act in a certain way that isn’t normal in an every day situation, then you are going to get some sort of reaction from the people around you. Whether it’s positive or negative, whether it’s physical or verbal or even non-verbal, you are going to get a reaction. Sometimes you can’t even help the reaction that you give to someone or something that happens around you, it’s a feeling that you experience in response to the act that just took
