These challenges directly attacked his perceived way of life based off of assumptions as opposed to facts and evidence. As a white male, Campbell argues that he has had no racial privilege and more so that privilege is not attached to race but many other attributes. Sabrina Coccia Women Images & Realities 9/22/2015 Reading Analysis #2 Although, most people assume feminism is just about being against ‘the man’, it is more than that. Usually, when individuals think of feminists, they immediately think of white feminists but what about the colored feminists. Colored women have to endure racial based problems more than white women. Colored women have to endure white supremacy oppressing them. In “No Disrespect Black Women and the Burden of Respectability” by Tamara Winfrey Harris and “Ideals and Expectations: Race, Health and Femininity” by Margaret A. Lowe, these writers talk about the ways in which ‘politics of respectability’ is forced upon and the effects on women of color especially on their bodies.…

Wildman and Davis show that racism and sexism can become less of an issue if people first begin to acknowledge their privilege. In their analysis of, “Making Systems of Privilege Visible,” Wildman notes that, “What is not seen cannot be discussed or changed. Thus to end subordination, one must first recognize privilege,” (Davis, Wildman 315). This means that we must get rid of the vocabulary of isms which disguises the use of privilege that is created by power systems. Some people are more privileged in certain ways while others are not.…

Does awareness of Cisgender Privilege create a more welcoming environment for the LGBTQ+ community? This course has made me more aware of different communities surrounding me that I had previously been unaware of. It has made me more aware of the actions I take and the phrases I use daily to be more inclusive. It would be interesting to see if it affects others on a similar way. Others should care about this issue equally, so we can become a more inclusive society.…

An individual’s identity consists of various components or identity markers, such as race, class, sexuality, and more. All of these components play a critical role in how a woman is affected by sexism and gender-based discrimination, and this is summarized by the concept of intersectionality. For instance, race is a significant factor that cannot be excluded from the discussion of women’s lives and the oppression that they face. Through an insightful discussion of multiple identities, relations of power and privilege, and intersections of oppression, Hunter College Women’s and Gender Studies Collective and Simalchik (2016) argue that intersectionality provides us with a more accurate lens through which we must view gender.…

1.) It is clear that feminist practice emphasizes a diverse approach that includes an understanding of multiple oppressions, power, privilege, multicultural competence, social justice, and the oppression of all marginalized people. It is also clear that it is not a fixed theory meaning the variety in feminist theories provides a range of different but overlapping perspectives from which to work from (Corey, 2016).In addition, Feminist therapy clients are expected to get involved in social action to address oppressive aspects of the environment with their clients overall. I have a very strong interest in promoting a social action agenda with my clients because I believe counselors should be advocating for their clients’ needs to ensure the best care possible. I believe that I could do well using this framework and that I would be capable to help my clients.…

Deutsch in turn constructs a numbered checklist to showcase the invisible privileges that men receive from people. What exactly makes the article memorable and outstanding? Is it the elegant use of syntax combined with powerful diction that makes the writing “flow?”…

Anyone who is living in the 21st century has heard of the movements of gender equality and feminism. This topic of interest has been around for awhile, and is making a huge comeback. When thinking about gender discrimination, our minds naturally assume that women are the ones being discriminated against.
