The money we collected from the donations was used to buy everyday items that will help people in shelters such as the homeless. Our Making A Change - Faith, Hope & Love project funded our Light…

After participating in Delta Academy, the work done by Deltas within my community was discernible. Growing up, it was not uncommon to see Delta women toiling selflessly to make the community and world a better place. I quickly realized that in order for change to happen, you have to emulate the change that you long to see. I am a firm believer that in life, the only responsibility we have is to give back to the community. Time and time again, I find myself pondering new, innovative ways to provide my community with resources that were not available to me, or my peers, growing up.…

A significant opportunity in my life that has had a major impact on me is an organization called Kids Are Scientists Too. KAST is a student-run non-profit corporation that aims to inspire young scholars to be interested in science and learning through fun, interactive science experiments led by passionate teachers. I was one of those passionate teachers. When I first heard of KAST, I immediately knew that I could contribute to the organization. I applied to become the lead at an elementary school, and after I was deemed fit for the role, I was chosen as the lead of a local elementary school.…
I have coordinated with many community directors from organizing alternative breaks for undergraduate students with the BeyondBama program in the Center for Service and Leadership. While planning for my first alternative break trip in Guin, AL, I worked closely with the Northwest Alabama Habitat for Humanity director, Teressa Clark, who everyone soon called Mama T. Mama T welcomed everyone on the trip with open arms and provided a sense of warmth and comfort into the community of Guin. In addition to cutting, cleaning, and revitalizing a Habitat home, it was important for Teressa that the students and I know the people and community of Guin. Therefore, we had dinners hosted by community members, cheered at their local high school football game, and volunteered at their library’s annual fundraiser.…
The following are just a few of the many student-and-DECA events we held in order to bring support, self-confirmation, and inspiration to young women: Copperas Cove DECA knew exactly how to make this project a success, and continue to further it to this day. We were able to provide for a worthy cause while honoring all of DECA’s ideals and values. Our teams placed teamwork above all, working in not so ideal circumstances toward a common goal. We exemplified integrity in all our endeavors, making sure to always do the right and moral thing for these girls, even when nobody was looking. Innovation flourished as Copperas Cove DECA was able to come up with new ways to attract an audience through media and the products created to raise funds.…
have had the pleasure to get involved with many community initiatives while in Winnipeg as well as after moving to Kamloops. For many years I was involved with Manitoba Theater for Young People, as well as participating in my high school’s musical theater program and Spring Production. While in Winnipeg I was a member of the social justice group Just Cause and organized many fundraisers and campaigns, such as our initiative to build a school in Kenya. Moreover, I would regularly volunteer at Winnipeg Harvest as well as Siloam Mission, where I had the ability to take on many responsibilities and interact with hundreds of people. At my prior high school I was awarded honours as well as honours with distinction and began my journey in the International…

The two organization groups I have chosen to research are V-DAY and Women’s Education Project (WEP); both encourage striving for better and more confident lifestyles. V-DAY is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls, whether that has to do with rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sex slavery. The members of V-DAY spread aware by raising money, creating events and revitalize existing anti-violence organizations. The Women’s Education Project is also an amazing organization that sends women whose families live on less than $1.50 a day in India to college. WEP not only send their students to college, but also provides each one of them with tuition for books, transportation, libraries, computer labs and different leadership programs.…
It was November 2, 2004, it was the US Presidential election, and it changed my life. Despite not having any political opinions, I was fascinated by this encounter. And so, in the aftermath of this encounter, I would discover not only a love of American politics something which remains a close hobby but what would become my greatest passion. I have always been deeply interested in anything international, obsessed with understanding how the world works, and why.…
Another community service project we participate in is highway clean-up. This is probably my favorite activity to do in Key Club. We go out on a highway that we’ve adopted and spend an hour or two picking up trash on the side of the road.…
Chapter 10 Feedback “If you don’t get feedback from your performers and your audience, you’re going to be working in a vacuum.” --Peter Maxwell Davies Lesson 10: Boards must invite feedback to improve performance The late Ed Koch, outspoken Mayor of NYC from 1978-1989, was famous for his question, “How am I doing?” Every board should be asking a similar question, “How are we doing?” Unfortunately, most boards have no formal or informal reporting mechanism.…
ESSAY 1 Why is service important to you and how has your service impacted your community? By enriching the lives of people from all walks of life through service, I have had the opportunity to chronicle the human experience in a captivating way and have benefitted positively from doing so. During my two-year term as a National Honor Society officer, I raised money to support Gabriela, a fifth grader from Honduras to attend school for a year through Unbound. In September, I received correspondence from her.…
What three words would you use to describe yourself? I am passionate, loving, and quiet. I am passionate to help out others because it is what keeps me at peace. I am also naturally quiet and reserved. I tend to keep my thoughts to myself.…
