Events That Changed My Life

There are many headline events that changed my life in positive and negative ways. Some of them were good and some of them were bad. We live in a world where even the smallest things can have a humungous impact on our lives. There have been times that made me feel incredibly vulnerable and there were times that I was not sure if I would make it out alive. Even though I am still breathing, sometimes I do not see how. In Billy Joel’s song, “We didn’t start the fire”, he refers to many events that changed the course of his life. Three main events that changed my life were the terrible terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the devastating tornado that swept through Mississippi on April 27, 2011, and the wonderful creation of YouTube. Also, I’ve found ways to prepare for terrorist attacks and tornados on YouTube. I discovered YouTube many years ago when I couldn’t figure out what the words to the song “Jumping Jack Flash” by the Rolling Stones were. My friend, David, suggested for me to look it up on YouTube. YouTube is a video streaming website that allows anyone to watch or upload all kinds of videos. David proceeded to take out his laptop to show me how. Now whenever I need to know something that I already don’t know, I search for a video on YouTube. 90 percent of the time, YouTube satisfies my thirst for knowledge. With the creation of YouTube, the world changed forever. Now people can watch a video on just about any subject. Nine years ago, google bought You Tube from Susan Wojcicki, now the CEO of YouTube for $1.65 billion. Every minute 300 hours of video content is uploaded to YouTube. In 2014, a survey showed that 65% of all children visit YouTube every day. 72% of these children are between the ages of six and eight years old. There are more people visiting YouTube just on mobile devices than people watching any cable network. One billion people of the 32 billion people that have internet service, watch videos on YouTube. Additionally, the site has one million advertisers, and is available in 60 different languages (Luscombe). There are people, like Justin Bieber, who owe their fame and …show more content…
I realized that I’m not really safe even when I think I am, bad things are going to happen inevitably, and when disaster strikes, I’m really not in control of my life. God decides when it’s my time to go. I have learned three things from these events: There are horrible people in this world that will do unspeakable things, when in doubt go to YouTube, and to always be ready for anything. The attacks on September 11, 2001, the creation of YouTube, and the tornadoes that crashed their way through Mississippi are the three main headline events from my life that have significantly influenced or affected me in big ways. I truly believe without these three events in history, I would not be the man I am

During the course of life, every person will experience many events, but there are a select few of those events that transcend the others. Those events can fall into one of two categories, either traumatic or joyous occasions, but none the less memorable. Of those extraordinary events, there are only one or two that every small and seemingly useless detail can be remembered for. In the course of my short life, I have been able to experience two such events, but, unfortunately, both have been negative situations. While I have never visited New York City, I, like many American’s remember where they were on September 11th, 2001, but unlike most outside of the Gulf Coast area, I remember where I was when Hurricane Ivan made landfall.…
