Adolf Hitler There is a lot of speculation as to why World War II started and whether or not it was right for Germany to start another world war. Prior to World War II Germany was treated unfairly due to the events of World War I. They had to accept full responsibility for starting World War I. Germany had to pay 6,600 million pounds for the damage caused by the war. They were only allowed to have a small army and six naval ships. No tanks, no air force and no submarines were allowed. The Rhineland area was to be de-militarized. Land was taken away from Germany and given to other countries. Anschluss, the union with Austria, was forbidden. They were forced to sign off on these terms at the Treaty of Versailles. The treaty was very harsh on the people of Germany. This led to the uprising of a people’s group, of which Adolf Hitler was the leader. He promised to get rid of the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. He had the full backing of the people of Germany. This set the stage for World War II and the rise of Adolf Hitler. It is up for debate whether or not this harsh treatment of Germany was worth starting another world war. Hitler was a strong nationalist for Germany and he promised to make Germany glorious again. the people of Germany backed him and there were a few Germans opposed to Hitler rising to power.
