Adolf Hitler There is a lot of speculation as to why World War II started and whether or not it was right for Germany to start another world war. Prior to World War II Germany was treated unfairly due to the events of World War I. They had to accept full responsibility for starting World War I. Germany had to pay 6,600 million pounds for the damage caused by the war. They were only allowed to have a small army and six naval ships. No tanks, no air force and no submarines were allowed. The Rhineland area was to be de-militarized. Land was taken away from Germany and given to other countries. Anschluss, the union with Austria, was forbidden. The reasons why Germany started the war, in my opinion, are good reasons. The German people were very unhappy due to the treaty and thought it was too harsh of a punishment, in which it was. Even other world leaders had come to agree that the Treaty of Versailles was too harsh on Germany and expressed regret for putting such a law on Germany. The United Nations established some appeasements for Germany to make it a little easier on them, but not enough for Germany to be content. Germany could not afford to pay the money that remained after the appeasements, during the 1920s the people in Germany were very poor. There were not that many jobs, and the price of food and basic goods was high. People were dissatisfied with the government and this is the reason they voted to power a man who promised to rip up the Treaty of Versailles, Adolf Hitler. He rose to power in German politics as leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party, also known as the Nazi Party. The people needed a strong leader to contest the victors of World War I and change their quality of life. Hitler promised to bring back Germany’s glory, and whether or not people agree with how he did it, he did. He may have done some evil after he secured Germany’s status, but it was necessary for Germany to fight for themselves at the start. Hitler eliminated unemployment in his country by giving every person a job working on improvement of the country. He involved every unemployed citizen in working on the highways and bridges that ran across the country. He even employed prisoners and eliminated crime in his country by putting every citizen to work so that they had no time for crime (Lawange). Hitler encouraged fair treatment of women and established a no interest loan of 1,000 marks to every new family. For every child the couple had, they could waive 250 marks off of their loan.
