The Events Leading Up to Jesus’ Birth

When did man, as we know man, really start? Our faith tells us it started with Adam and Eve. God gave instructions to Adam and then to Eve. However, temptations set upon them and they made a bad choice.
The angel Gabriel, said to Zechariah, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife Elizabeth will have a son, and you will name him John” (Luke 1:13, NIV). Zechariah was told that his wife Elizabeth, who was unable to bear children, was going to have a son. Elizabeth and Zechariah were well beyond childbearing age, this caused Zechariah to question how this could be. Gabriel responded, “I’m Gabriel! I stand in God’s presence. God sent me to tell you this good news. But because you didn’t believe what I said, you will be unable to talk until the day this happens. Everything will come true at the right time” (Luke 1:19-20, NIV). Zechariah and Elizabeth are the parents of John the Baptist and Elizabeth is also Mary’s cousin.
Sixth months later, Gabriel came to Mary to tell her she would have a baby boy and would name him Jesus. Gabriel said to Mary, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be

How can one rate what teaching of Jesus is superior over another? All were powerful under the situation of the event. Trying to describe the bible in a paragraph or two is something that cannot be done, that is similar to rating the teachings of Jesus. From reading the Bible and listening to others I think the major teaching of Jesus can be summed up in the phrase, “Love your neighbor as yourself”. If everyone took that phrase to heart and practiced it, what a great and peaceful world we would live in. The Bible describes many events of Jesus’s life but most can revert back to the phrase of “Love your neighbor as

Sherman Alexie and Octavia Butler have very different backgrounds, but the only similarity they share (that we know of) is being the minority. Sherman Alexie went to Reardon High School for a better education than offered to him by the rez. He was the only Indian there besides the school mascot. Octavia Butler is one of the few African American women to write science fiction. Their stories, too, are very different from each other, but they have a few similarities.…

In A God of Incredible Surprises by Virgilio Elizondo, who is the leading Latino theologian in the United States today, we get to witness his thoughts about Jesus’s life on earth. Elizondo introduces some very intriguing thoughts on the birth of Jesus, and what all that could mean for humanity. For instance, “… in the Apostle’s Creed: He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary” (Elizondo, 2003, 22). After this, Elizondo makes a very interesting point come to mind by asking why Jesus should be conceived by the Holy Spirit. Elizondo believes there is nothing more godlike than man and woman creating new life from the bond of love.…

Prayer opens doors for God to act and work. The scripture I have chosen is 1 Samuel 1:10-11 to prove my statement. It reads as follows; “and she was in bitterness of soul and prayed unto the Lord, and she wept bitterly. And she vowed a vow and said, O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your hand maid and remember me and not forget your hand maid, but will give unto her a male child, then I will give him unto you all the days of his life and there no razor come upon his head.”…

The theme of love lies at the heart of the Fourth Gospel, pervading every aspect of the book. The Synoptic Gospels focus on the theme as well, but in John’s Gospel Jesus directs his disciples to love God and their neighbor, based on Deuteronomy 6:4–5 and Leviticus 19:18. In John’s Gospel, Jesus’s only command for his disciples is to love one another (15:12), and he assures the reader that God loves those who keep his commandments (14:21, 23). John points to Jesus’s death as an example of the type of love that Jesus expects his disciples to have (cf. 3:16; 15:13). Love in the Gospel of John argues that to understand John’s concept of love requires understanding more than what Jesus taught in the Gospel.…

Status referred to the social positions that women could obtain within a population whilst their function related to the roles which they can be attributed to, such as administrative or maternal roles. Coincidentally, the main female figures in the Gospel of Matthew also have their roles implied and this suggests their social standings within their community. The consistent mention of the two women named ‘Mary’ in the Gospel suggests their function throughout Jesus’s life and the growth of his movement. In numerous occasions, women are associated with the role of being a mother of certain children, namely Jesus (New Oxford Bible, Matthew 2:11). The importance of this role is frequently implied, such as when Joseph is specifically instructed by an angel to take his child (Jesus) and wife (Mary) and flee to Egypt and later to Israel (2:14).…

This is all significant for somebody who believes in Jesus because it is important to see each of the different accounts sides and understand each authors perspective. It is important for somebody who believes in Jesus because it makes them see why each author composed the birth narratives in their own way. The implication I see for the differences is that when people tell different stories such as Luke and Matthew did the facts don 't always add up so people tend to think that it is not always true. This doesn 't really change the way I read the New Testament, but it makes feel that I should be more open minded to other ideas and perspectives. I shouldn’t take a side as quickly as I do.…

In this verse God also says that he will be a leader with courage, patience, and determination. Zachariah wanted a child to carry his name and to be a prophet who would lead the people after him. He was thankful to hear that that his son Yahya would be a prophet among the righteous. Righteous one always conforms himself to God’s law, the ones who sets aright what has been made wrong, and the one who brings the light to remove the…
