Iciar Bollain's Even The Rain

Decent Essays
Even the Rain directed by Iciar Bollain is about two people, Costa and Sebastian, who make a movie regarding Christopher Columbus who sails to the Americas and how he seized the land and indigenous people who were already present. While all this filming occurs, there is the water wars in Cochabamba, Bolivia led by Daniel, an actor who was recruited by Sebastian. The water war was about how companies from overseas were controlling the wells in Bolivia and were denying access to the public, they even restricted the people from collecting rain. There are some complications in the movie because since Daniel led the resistance and is apart of the movie, both Costa and Sebastian run through troubles of getting Daniel to be quiet until the filming of the movie was over. Bollain does a parallel between the two stories and how they revolve around each other. It can be seen through the characters that the scenes that they are filming are still …show more content…
First and foremost it was a foreign film for which I am not really into. However after the first half-hour I was already captivated by the movie and finished it in one sitting. Iciar Bollain does an incredible job at showing the contrast of history vs. present day. Bollain clearly demonstrates that in modern day people are still getting oppressed all over the world. Just because it is not happening in one country does not mean we can turn a blind and ignore the others. The themes that I comprehended through the movie was that if there is something you truly believe in, fight for for it. The resistance proved that they were able to overcome the obstacles blocking them and win the water war. The movie was an amazing and would recommend it to many people. It shows in great strengths the detail and amount of work put into this movie. This would be a movie I would watch again in the future because of how much I enjoyed it. I am glad I chose this movie to watch instead of the

Choosing a movie to watch was difficult, many of the films on the list sounded intriguing, but I finally settled on The Rape of Europa. I never knew art was such an important part of the Second World War, and I was interested in learning the role art played in World War II. The Rape of Europa explores the systematic purging of art different art that was deemed unworthy or degenerate by the Hitler and the German officials, and also the looting of art the Germans deemed worthy from the countries they occupied. It also shows Hitler’s love and even obsession for art and his persistence of the German officials to participate in art appreciation and collection. Another plot point discussed as Hitler’s to transform his “home town” of Linz, Austria into a metropolis of art and culture similar to Rome.…

It begins by describing what a favela is, which I am glad it does because this is a term that I have never heard of before. This film discusses what life is like in Brazil and goes through different slums in Brazil. It was made to inform and show people what the slums were like in Brazil and to give the audience a glimpse of what life is like for them.…

The main theme that emerges from this film, as discussed in the paper, is that change is inevitable and thus has to be embraced. That some people’s lives in the western frontier had to go through sacrifice such as Valance who had to be taken out of the picture and Doniphon who had to sacrifice being with the love of his life. While other people such as Ransom had to struggle to get people to understand the best way to do things, as well as put on a fake façade so people would have someone heroic to look up to. It was all of these lives that gave character to the new progressive…

The world has become more and more connected over time, and even now in the era of 24 hour cable news channels, we often times see the world as a harsher place; however this is not the case. On the contrary, there is evidence to support the fact that the world is becoming more peaceful as time goes on - despite what the news might say (Pink and Mack). Having said that, just because the world is becoming a more peaceful place overall does not mean that major conflicts around the world have just stopped happening. Watching the film, God Grew Tired of Us, this fact was more evident than ever.…

‘The Truman Show’(1998, directed by Peter Weir) is a film about Truman Burbank(Jim Carrey), a man living in a world entirely constructed for him.
