Every story is told from a perspective, whether it’s from first, second, or third person. However, different perspectives impact the content of the story in their own ways. For one, stories that are told from the first person are advantageous because it allows the reader to get a closer look at the main character as a whole. This makes the information provided in the story valid for the character that is being focused on. The story, “Legless Joe Versus Black Robe” from the book Born with A Tooth by Joseph Boyden, helps demonstrate this analogy because the reader is able to read the story and see things from an indigenous perspective.…

The story is always told in third person, but it only comes from one character at a time. The focus of narration changes from David to Norah, Caroline, and even Paul, so the audience is introduced to many different character opinions and stories. Edwards does an exquisite job of writing in a way that taps into the mind of the characters and their feelings. Another key example of point of view, is the way Edwards shifts back and forth from David’s life with Paul to Caroline’s life with Phoebe. By making their lives parallel to one another, it gives the reader even more insight as to how the lie affects them individually.…

Text-to-Text relation: I don’t acquire a very solid text- to- text connection to “On the Sidewalk Bleeding”. My reasoning as to why I don’t acquire a solid connection is because the genre of books I regularly read is relatable as not very many of the books I read are from the tragedy category. The text-to-text connection that I did make was when Andy talked about marrying Laura one day, as it brought me back to the “Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. In this novel, the foil of the “Hunger Games”, Peeta was brutally wounded by his allies, to after which he was found by Katniss, the protagonist. Katniss took Peeta into a cave and aided him as best as she could, to which Peeta confessed his love for Katniss and wished he helped Katniss earlier in their village (district).…

This is because a 1st person shows a person and all his personal thoughts about an event they were involved in. A 3rd person narrative would just describe what happened, and maybe have a quote or two of a person who really experienced it.
