Evaluation On Musical Performance

Throughout this Semester I had the task of going to three musical performances and reviewing them. The first performance I attended was Hairspray, this took place at North Central College at the Red Horse Theatre which my friend invited me to see with her. Overall this performance was very organized and the tempo sustainability was upbeat throughout the entire time. I was very impressed how drawn the audience was and how there was never a dull moment. These things fall under the category of musicals that we have learned about. My favorite part of this performance was when the main character broke out of her shy shell and showed everyone who she really was through song. The Musical aspect of this show was highly impressive since they mainly …show more content…
The Second musical performance that I attended falls under the category of world music that we have studied in the classroom and I saw brought to life. I attended The Harper Guitar Ensemble on May 2nd that took place at Harper College performing arts center.
My general reaction to this performance was first surprised because I had never been to a musical event at my college and the past concerts I’ve seen like this were more packed with people and on stage there were more performers. The structure of this ensemble was broken into separate performances which I found intriguing because I got to see the different talent of students and styles of music that they had prepared for the evening. The auditorium also impressed me itself it seemed bigger than my previous school. Overall the building was very

Two guitarists performed this worldly piece of music. As I listened to this song I felt my culture coming alive. The tempo seemed to be slower but as the second guitarist performed it was clear that this was a more upbeat tempo that made the piece uplifting. This song was created to be played in the streets during a festival of some kind. The overall mood of this piece in my opinion was calm because there were only guitars. I feel if there were other instruments the piece would be livelier. The piece begins slowly and then it picks up. I enjoyed the melodic way of how the piece brought me to an actual “festival”. Music like this bring the realization of the different cultures and what different individuals celebrate. There are many types of Hispanic music I found this piece to be interesting because it was specially made for festivals and party like gatherings. My knowledge of Hispanic music is that it is usually in a high key and is prone to be danced

On November 3, 2015 I sat in the red velvet stadium seating of the west campus performance hall for the performance of Isaac Bustos and Mariana Gariazzo. Both performers are faculty of the Texas A&M Performance Studies department. The pieces performed varied from solo pieces and duet performances. The theme of the presentation was titled “the influence of folk music in classical repertoire”. The pieces performed included: Prelude 1 and 2 of Heitor Villa-Lobos, Bachianas Brasilerias #5 by Heitor Villa-lobos, Entr’act by Jacques Ibert, and three pieces from Astor Piazolla Bordel 1900, Café 1930, and Nightclub 1960.…

This Saturday I went to the W.M Turner Auditorium to see the play Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. The play took place in the early 19th century and followed the life of our 7th president Andrew Jackson. This musical was written by Alex Timbers, and the music and lyrics were done by Michael Friedman. The director of the show was Angela Bacarisse and the costume design was done by Cloey Hammonds. Overall the play was very enjoyable, from the singing, to the comic relief, to the accuracy of the evidence in the play.…

For five years the Californian band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, have neither released an album nor a single. That is why his eleventh studio album, The Gataway, was greatly acclaim by their fans. The release of this album is accompanied by a world tour which is still on going. The tour arrived at Spain last September obtaining a sell out of tikets in all of their concerts. Fortunately, I got a ticket to their live concert in Madrid.…

The kind of music that we have been going over these past five weeks or so in this class is not new to me, but at the same time I am not totally comfortable with the different styles and how each are unique. When deciding what concert to go to o I could write this report I was unsure which one to pick. I was unsure of what each concert had to offer me with what pieces of music that would be played. After much debate and deliberation I came to the determination that the best concert for me to attend would be Cirque De La Symphonie Goes Broadway! Presented by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.…

Since this winter Conservatory of Music hosted many variety performances, including new works such as unusual electroacoustic compositions, classics in wide number instruments. Among musicals that were performed in the Music studio, performances by the piano stood out with its soothing and familiar sound. Unlike computer-generated electroacoustic music performance in which performer included sounds baby cries, the piano music, especially in classical or pop genre, is more pleasant to hear. Widely known classics still have plenty of audiences and more widely appreciated than most of the current new styles. Apart from that fact, the classics have more open sourced and easily accessed history than any modern song.…

On Wednesday, December 2, 2015 I attended the Fresno State Jazztet, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Orchestra concert at eight in the evening in the Fresno State concert hall. The following will cover a review of the program as well as my point of view and reflection. I was expecting to see Christmas decorations or instruments decorated since it states on the bulletin “winter Jazz concert” but I was wrong once I saw the pamphlet. The reasons why I thought that was because the last time I attended a winter music concert a while ago I’ve seen those things. I was really nervous once I got into the building where the concert was going to take place.…

Opening night, the dancers that performed in the University Dance Theatre production, had talent, agility, and graceful movements. The concert had a variety of dance genres, visual appeal, and emotions that each piece and the show overall represented. Humor, drama, and serenity were not emotions I thought I would receive while watching these dances. One thing I did not realize would make many of the pieces was how crucial and reliant lighting and graphics were necessary to make the piece more visually interesting. However, I was excepting similar dances and movements; even if, some pieces had comparable choreography and emotional appeal the diversity stood out.…

The performance attempted to give a dark but loving story which will keep you amused throughout the whole concert. I learned a lot about the choreographers in the performance by the way they presented themselves. Presentation means a lot and the way they proceeded was professional. The dance was successful to a point where everyone in the audience was thrilled and amazed from the performance. Practice makes perfect and the only way to improve is to try and do it over and over…
