The title of the article is “ Initial psychometric evaluation of the staff perception of the disruptive patient behavior scale”. I will discuss the mixed method approach by analyzing the article and discussing the significance, purpose, theoretical framework, study design, data and analysis, participant and setting selection including ethical consideration, conclusion, and implication for future practice.

A mixed method approach was used to develop and psychometrically test the SPDPB. In Phase 1 qualitative survey was administered to 770 staff members, of which 70% of them were nurses. There were 4 initial questions namely; examples of DBP that was encountered, ways to eradicate DBP, most helpful response to the participant after DBP incident and lastly, what group is high risk for possible DBP. Qualitative descriptive method was used to come up with 3 major themes related to DBP: preventative approach to manage neuropsychiatric diseases, access to security staff as well as psychiatric consultation and skill advancement and staff support and guidelines development after an event.
