Functional Behavior Assessment is a scientific approach to analyzing direct and indirect data to formulate a hypothesis of why a target behavior is occurring and most importantly how it is maintained. A process for gathering information that can be used to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of behavior intervention plans. The student behavior is analyzes and evaluate for Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). FBA is there to provide help to reinforce the desire and appropriate replacement behavior for the student. It is a scientific process that helps determine why a behavior is occurring based on direct data, as well as indirect data

There are benefits of conducting an FBA which will address problem behaviors. Strategies proven to be effective include teaching students how to comply with well-defined classroom rules, providing students more structure in lessons, making strategic seating assignments, and posting a class schedule (New Mexico Public Education Department, 2010). FBA focus on identifying significant amount of specific behaviors. Positive phrasing give the student feedback for doing appropriate behavior.
