Studies completed by Lofgren, Ekholm and Ohman (2006), Henriksson, Liedberg and Gerdle (2005) and Palstam, Bjersing and Mannerkorpi (2012) found that woman with Fibromyalgia who engaged in work were more satisfied with life, had improved health statue and a greater sense of belonging. Along similar lines a study by Antao et al. (2013) discussed that for individuals with chronic pain, work is an important aspect of their overall health and well-being. This agrees with Rosenfeld and Hay (2006) findings that individuals who work are healthier than those who do not. When engaging in meaning occupation, such as work, the benefits include improved quality of life, reduction in poverty and social inclusion. Accordingly, Asbring (2000) found that for some individuals, their identity is strongly connected with work, being unable to work resulted in these individuals feeling isolated, and that they were no longer needed, this impacted on their self-esteem. Consequently, this service also reflects the occupational therapist’s value of occupational balance in the lives of clients. Occupational therapist’s aim to assist clients to maintain an occupational balance, where they are able to participate in a number of occupations in a way that is both harmonious and cohesive. occupational therapist also address occupational imbalance which can be identified in individuals with chronic illness who find their lives are under occupied, therefore compromising their health and quality of life (Backman, 2010). This service has been designed to provide education, rehabilitation and support for these individuals with chronic illness transitioning back into the work
