In my time in interviewing a probation officer, I have gotten in contact with Darin Kessler. Mr. Kessler, currently works with the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department and has the position of a Community Supervision Officer. As described by Mr. Kessler, a Community Supervision officer supervises their client based on the order of the judge. It is their job to help and keep offenders in check and also report any problems to the court. Ultimately, he wishes that the clients he work for would change their criminal behavior to a more positive one. For Mr. Kessler’s educational background, he has a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice. For Officer Kessler’s interest in pursuing this type of career, was first started when he initially wanted to become a police officer. For the biggest accomplishment in his position, he often treats his clients with fairness and respect and really want to help them to being successful in their lives that they wouldn 't resort to criminal behavior. It also motivates him when his clients appreciate a person who is a hard worker and making sure he is doing his job right. His current typical work week usually consists of working ten hours Monday through Thursday. Specifically on Thursday, is when he does his fieldwork to check up on clients at their houses, work, or programs that they have been assigned to. He also very rarely take work home since most of the time he can 't work without the tools needed that are in his office. Lastly, I asked him regarding some advice to individuals who do want to become a probation officer. He suggests that you should maintain good grades at school, get their masters degrees, and try to achieve a federal probation officer that will help them better financially than a community probation
