The results of a Pearson correlation test shows that Conscientiousness (M=5.01, SD=1.07) has a significant positive relationship with body satisfaction (r =.142, p < .01). This means that the higher the level of Conscientiousness, the higher the level of body satisfaction. The results also show that Neuroticism (M= 3.45, SD= 1.07) has a significant negative relationship with body satisfaction (r= -.356, p < .01). This means that the higher the level of Neuroticism, the lower the level of body satisfaction.

According to Mental Health Foundation, statistics in 2012 stated that depression is known to be one of the most common mental health problem in New Zealand. As nearly more than half of the population is diagnosed with depression. Depression is simply due to individuals interaction of biological and environmental factors. When people are not satisfied of their body, there is a high likelihood of them developing depression, which is influenced by low self esteem. Therefore, if we understand the relationship between personality traits and body satisfaction, we can develop some strategies or method to overcome and improve people’s depression. For example; according to one of the results people high in Neuroticism tends to have low body satisfaction. If we can find a method to change people with level of Neuroticism, this can alter their perception of their negative body image. For example, people who are high in Neuroticism are more emotional and experience anxiety. If people around them can try decrease their Neurotic level, this can prevent people from deceiving a low body
