As it may seem as a winter comes, everyone becomes jolly and bright, but that is not always the case. It seems as if school being canceled for snow would be fun until secrets are shared. One person could have a whole different view of “Let It Snow” than someone else’s view. “Let It Snow” was a great story and used intriguing techniques. David Sedaris has a superb piece by showing the story’s point, the overall mood and tone, and how the story has a lasting effect. The mood is an overall feeling or emotions that are created in the reader. Moods can be opinion based- because everyone is different. An example of a mood for “Let it Snow” might be funny or guilt and maybe even anger. The reason someone might feel this was could also depend on the tone of the passage. The tone is the author’s attitude towards the subject. In every story there is an overall tone the author is trying to create. David Sedaris was going for a more humorous approach to this story. There are definitely other tones possible because this is another- opinion based topic. Now, as for style it is pretty orthodox. Style is the way the author uses words, phrases, and sentences. Meaning the way, it is put together, leaving it up to Sedaris to come up with his own style. With this in mind it is quite tranquil to spot this story submits to pathos. Pathos being the appeal to emotion. Sedaris shows his humorous tone in the story several times. Examples could be, “One of us should get hit by a car” (Sedaris 90). A reader could even conclude that a reader does not know what to aspect. It is almost as if the reader might not know what to expect. Sedaris uses this piece to show his funny bone. Many times an author does not write about an alcoholic mom and her kids on a snow day. That is what makes this story so unique. Overall this piece leaves an overwhelming lasting impact. The very last paragraph shows the kids reuniting with their mom and helping her out. The siblings, then continue to end the story by walking home peacefully with their mom. Sedaris even states, “This is how things went. One moment she was locking us out of our own house and the next we were rooting around in the snow, looking for her left shoe” (Sedaris 90).
