Superior Essays
Introduction
Unlike my previous writing class, ENG 3050 prepares students for writing, researching, writing, and designing technical documents in certain fields, such as computer science and engineering. Although some technical writing are addresses a general audience, technical documents are often written for numerous audiences with different specializations. According to the syllabus, these documents include textual and visual elements of design. At the beginning of the semester, I had limited knowledge about technical writing and originally thought I already knew everything from ENG 1020. However, this was absolutely not the case at all as there were certain guidelines I had to follow in order to write good technical documents. Anderson

I will detail my performance, both individually and collaboratively, in regards to particular learning outcomes. The first learning outcome focused on the ability to write and design, which required us to comprehend how to apply suitable writing styles and rules in order to improve the efficiency of our documents. The second learning outcome focused on reading and analyzing, which allowed us to comprehend the use of certain writing mechanics in other people’s works. Understanding the use of those mechanics allowed us to improve our own works. The third learning outcome focused on the ability to research and document. This allowed students to support their work and make it more convincing by applying their research skills and suitable documentation of such findings. The final learning outcome focused on the use of technology and media. This allowed us to use technological resources to create efficient technical documents. I believe that each of the projects I worked on this semester allowed me to exhibit and substantially develop my technical writing skills. The projects I worked on this semester include writing a resume and a cover letter, writing a set of instructions on wikiHow, and writing a two-component report to help an organization solve a certain issue they are facing. A discussion of how I was able to develop my technical writing skills through these projects is indicated in this …show more content…
In this project, we all have to identify a problem a professional organization is facing and, using the data we gather and analyze, propose some recommendations for potential solutions in order to help them resolve the issue. While this project is usually done in groups, I chose to write a feasibility study on my own. Since I did not have to use wiki markup language in this project, I found it to be less complex than the wikiHow assignment. However, it was still challenging due to its length. Working on this project, I believe that I satisfied the requirements for the first, second, and third learning outcomes. The textbook came in handy when I had to evaluate the design of a feasibility study. While my report was not organized in the exact same way as the sample in the textbook, I was able to get an idea about the sections I had to include in mine. In addition, I had to conduct some primary and secondary research. This meant that besides looking at credible articles, I had to conduct other forms of research, which include, but are not limited to, interviews and surveys. Before enrolling in ENG 3050, I was never required to conduct primary research. At this point in the semester, I can see that it will come in handy when working on future

Hello, My reason for substituting this course is due to the fact that I have already learned the knowledge and concepts from a course taken from a previous school (ENGL 102 from the Community College of Philadelphia) which satisfy the course objectives for ENGL 202C. With this course, I learned the techniques I need to write an effective technical paper. During this course, I wrote multiple papers which dealt with various aspects of our world today, such as science and technology, social interaction, and economic facets. This gave me an advantage because not only did I know how to write an effective paper in science and technology (the main theme of ENGL 202C), I also wrote on other factors of life which allowed me to broaden my horizon and…

This profile of the place appeared as odd assignment for me. This assignment being a partner project was completely unexpected. Colonial Country Club is foreign as undiscovered land for me, I had to rely on my partner for preparation for the interview. I did not know what to expect, or what is expected from me in this exclusive society. We distributed the parts of the interview as Matt preparing the questions and I took the responsibility to incorporate the interviewer’s oral response into our essay.…

Throughout this semester, we have written two major papers that really display my capabilities as a writer. By evaluating these two pieces with the learning outcomes established at the beginning of this semester, outcomes 1, 2, and 3 are most applicable when gauging my progress in this course. Learning outcome 1 is, "Demonstrate academic research and writing skills in essays and projects to participate in a scholarly conversation" Learning outcome 2 is, "Demonstrate critical reading through a knowledge of the forms and functions of a variety of texts" Learning Outcome 3 is, "Follow a research writing process that includes developing a topic, locating and evaluating sources (including peer-reviewed), composing in response to those sources, and revising and reflecting on that process;" Each of these outcomes I believe I have met by using them as goals when writing in and out of class. In my essay "Survivors and their Children: Examining the Holocaust's Multigenerational Effects" I discuss the impact the Holocaust has on those who survived it and on their children.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…

Critical reflection Reflecting back on what I have learnt about myself as a writer is that it is okay to be aware of your weaknesses and using the necessary tools to support and strengthen them. As a writer it is good to step outside of your comfort zone and experiment with new genres. Let your writing take you on an emotional journey, and let your emotions lead your writing into a new journey. As a writer you need to expand your vocabulary and use powerful descriptive words to really create a mental image for your readers. I have learnt to understand the importance of sentence structure, drafting, and proof reading and not over using commas creating sentences that are too long.…
