Evaluating Leadership Strategies

Working on teams in school can be a difficult task because we (students) all have our own personalities, ethical values, schedules, responsibilities, work ethics, opinions, feelings, etc. Consequently, it can be “rough” to depend on others for your grade.
Describe and evaluate the strategies you used to complete your work. The strategies that I used to complete my work are:
• Communication- it is important to communicate wants, ideas, needs, and facts.
• Focus- it is important to not lose sight of the desired outcome. In my case, I wanted to learn as much as possible, and to get a good grade.
• Feelings out of the picture- it is important to me to recognize when things are getting out of place in order for me to regain control and focus. Taking things personal never leads to a successful outcome.
• Remained authentic to my work ethics- no matter how much more work I would have to do, my

In my case, I think that my professor was the one who emerged as a leader because she showed the characteristics of a true leader; for example, I had her support, she empowered me to speak up my mind, and she understood the diversity in the classroom. On the other hand, working with only one classmate (Preston) in a team group was a satisfying experience because we were able to returned our work in time.
Evaluate the overall effectiveness of your group's process (see chapter 7) and final products
Our group was effective because we did not do combat groupthink, which is the tendency to put cohesion above performance by soliciting input rather than pushing for our own choices. In my opinion, from a communication viewpoint, Preston and I had a common goal, interdependence, ongoing communication, and the size of the group was small. However, after deeply analyzing our behaviors, I’ve realized that we lack mutual influence; Preston had his own ideas and I had my own.
