Personal Narrative: My Personal Failure

Evading jabs, dodging roundhouse kicks, struggling to keep up. This was the hardest sparring match I had ever faced in my life. Not only, because of the physical aspect, but also the mental restraint. THUMP. I felt as if I had collided with a freight truck right in the stomach. Losing my balance and eventually falling, time momentarily stopped. Who could this mighty opponent I was facing? It was the person most similar to me. A “mini-me,” as most would say: black hair, brown eyes, brown skin, and half my height, yet just as powerful in spirit. This fearsome opponent happened to be my brother, Josh. I was six years old when Josh was born, initially I wanted a brother simply to play card games, such as Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon, or rummy, with. As we both grew older, I knew this would not happen. As I tried to explain the rules of a game to him, he would return a blank stare. Furthermore, losing was not an …show more content…
From cleaning up after Josh, to making sure he doesn’t eat his favorite snack (bugs), my parents had instilled this responsibility within me. I had to look after my brother, and any of Josh’s faults or harm would fall upon me and be deemed as a personal failure. As a seven year old boy who only wanted to play video games, this task was detrimental towards my goal of becoming a Pokémon master, but the irritation my brother provided didn’t stop there. He would mimic every habit of mine! From watching television, to holding a toy, Josh would cry and throw a fit until he got his way, which was to copy my way. When Josh was young I could assert my physical dominance over him, but as I got older he got bulkier. As a 100 pound 10 year old, my brother sparked a fascination towards the wrestling entertainment industry, and most afternoons ended with Josh’s demonstration of his visually acquired skills onto myself. Through his 12 years of being my brother, I have faced plenty of adversity, yet, one thing remained true: my care for

Unlikely duos are a common find in fictional media. While it can’t be said that George Milton and Lennie Small, from John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men, were the first, it can be assumed that the conflicts faced between them inspired many modern works. Steinbeck portrays George and Lennie as having a sibling-like relationship. Through this, George realizes that Lennie’s existence is holding him back, and only putting Lennie even further in harm’s way. This leads us to the theme that sometimes, in order to protect the ones you love, you have to do things that will harm them.…

Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…

As a sport, it was entirely new to me. It had previously only been a staged festival of well-muscled actors. Now, I faced it as a challenge. I was entering a field of athletes that had been learning pins since their infancy, and I felt that immediately. I faced impossible match-ups not only…

Ms. Shive/Reading Comprehensive Level-headedness My siblings and I all have a common trait: level-headedness. Level-headedness helps us remain calm, understanding, and helpful to others. "We all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own." - This quotation from Stoic Marcus Aurelius relates to us because we all want to hear people’s opinions, and we always tend to the needs of other people before our own.…

As an American business owner, if I heard that statement I would be outraged. My thoughts would be, I have worked so hard to get where I am, I paid all my loans from when I started, and this was my dream and I made this happen on my own. But, as you see time and time again, when speeches are given after winning an award, such as a music award, they thank many people for helping them get to where they are; they thank parents, god, producers, etc. Therefore, there is truth behind "You didn't get successful on your own" (Obama, 2012).…

Danny is my brother’s name. Even though he got into Lab, I don’t think he is smart. The reason why I think that is because when something is going wrong with him or in the apartment, he asks me when the problem can be solved very easily and quickly. Kids can be ridiculous; My little brother is at times preposterously infuriating — don’t get me wrong he’s probably the single most important person in my life — but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t done things that make me want to tackle him and just shout “Why!?” (I mean who doesn’t feel like that about a sibling at some point). One topic me and the little devil clashed on was about how after a shower my little brother would walk out onto the bathroom floor before he dried off. This proceeded to make using the restroom after he had been washing like traversing a marshy wetland and altogether a rather foul experience.…
