In Kevorikians theory which I support, the length of life is shorter but the quality is greater. The same way that people have the right to live healthy and pain free, should also be applied when they are sick and suffering wanting to be at peace. According to the author Sheryl Grey Stolberg in the New York Times, May 11th 1999, the founder of hospice Dame Cicely Saunders talks about, "You matter because you are you. You matter to the last moment of your life, and we will do all we can, not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die." This suggests that all people have the right to control their destiny and help them take the fear out of dying. I feel that hospice, a specialized type of care for those terminally ill, is a benefit to human beings because it promotes death with dignity. People with this care can maintain the highest quality of life until the moment of death. All in all a peaceful death is everybody 's right, and at the end of the day dying is not a crime if it is what the person …show more content…
Jack Lessenberry from the Los Angeles Times writes that Jack Kevorkian states “Yes, we need euthanasia, for certain cases where people are in comas or too immobile to even press a button” back in december of 1993.(last para.). This means someone 's decision to die should be based off of what they want and what is going to make them feel better. I believe if someone can barely press a button and is still suffering, they shouldn 't have to live if they do not want too. If the person is in a coma or too immobile to do daily activities, they have already died in a sense. They are not really living if they cannot perform the daily activities a person does. Aaron Foley from mlive news article, states that Jack Kevorkian also acknowledges that “ The patient decides when it 's best to go”(Para. 5). This demonstrates that making the decision to die is already hard enough without your family 's opinions and thoughts on top. To many this is tough seeing your loved ones making the decision to move on and be at peace, but they have to see things from your perspective and put themselves in your place. The person dying knows what 's in their best interest and it is only fair that people, especially loved one 's respect their decision. Suffering is not living and people can become selfish when they want their loved ones to hold on just so they don 't have to say goodbye. Michelle Mikee O.
