“They had been begging for months to die” (Gross). In the story “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck a main character by the name of George, has to face a difficult decision after his best friend, Lennie, murdered the wife of another character, Curley. George has to quickly decide if he wants Lennie to continue living and let him get killed in whichever way Curley would like to when he finds them or would he kill him in a peaceful/fast way. The story clearly shows that mercy killing, which is the killing of a person or animal from an incurable and painful disease, it's a righteous thing to do to show kindness to a needed loved one.

The following quote shows that mercy killing is unacceptable, “Giving doctors the right, in law, to cause the death of their patients will never be safe and no amount of so-called "safeguards" will protect those who live with depression or abuse” (Schadenberg). In my point of view, this statement is wrong because it is unthoughtful to make people suffer endlessly. “I oughtta of shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn’t oughtta of let no stranger shoot my dog” (Steinbeck 61). This proves that euthanasia is the right thing to do because the dog was suffering.
When a loved one is in need, all you want for them is to get better. Euthanasia allowed this to take the incurable pain away from a loved one.
