In this paper I will discuss whether the Chicago Heat Wave as written about in Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago by Eric Klinenberg, is best defined as a social or natural disaster. Klinenberg talks about each as a possible explanation for the Chicago Heat Wave. Like Klinenberg I believe that the Chicago Heat Wave was a natural disaster, there were record temperatures and the city could do little in defense when faced with situations like this. However, this explanation does not account for why so many people died or why some areas or sorts of people had higher rates than others, for this reason I believe the Heat Wave is better defined as a social disaster.…

This theme is exemplified through one of their cold weather insulation products, Cold WX Jacket LT MultiCam Men’s, this heavy duty jacket provides protection in drastically cold temperatures and is offered in the MultiCam pattern for concealment purposes. Overall, apart from solid colors, Arc’teryx LEAF produces products in the MultiCam pattern which is trademarked by Crye Precision (which was originally used by the U.S. army in 2010 while stationed in Afghanistan territory). This is particularly interesting as it explains why products in this pattern are more expensive and further appeals towards their consumer segment. Having said that, in comparison to regular Arc’teryx products, the LEAF line is approximately 30-50% more expensive. With this in mind, it comes to no surprise as the perceived value from the consumer’s perspective lies in the quality, functionality, and durability of the material used for LEAF products.…

For centuries, humans have worn clothing to keep warm in the winters, cool in the summers, and to protect from injuries. According to a study done by the University of Florida, “Following the evolution of lice shows modern humans started wearing clothes about 170,000 years ago, a technology which enabled them to successfully migrate out of Africa” (Torrent, 2011). Similarly, humans that began wearing clothing on a regular basis, were kept warm when first exposed to the ice age (Smith, 2011). Clothing has helped early human civilizations survive conditions that would have otherwise killed them. Since then, humans have found use of animal furs and skins to help them survive even the harshest weather (Viegas, 2011).…
