Obligations of the Warrior Classes: European Knight and Japanese Samurai When looking at the roles and their differences between European Knights and Japanese Samurai, there were four articles. The first article looked at was about the way of the Samurai, which was by William S. Wilson in 1979. This article went into depth about how Samurai were treated and how they had to be in a certain mindset. The second article in the Samurai was by Jackson Spielvogel in 2011. This article was about a story, and it showed the hardships they wet through and how the military struggled. Knights were a class of warriors that specialized combat, and were often horseback. They often used used weapons such as the longsword, lance, dagger and various blunt weapons. They swore themselves by the Code of Chivalry, which was about etiquette, and courage in battle as well as being a devoted Christian. Not only did knights protect their lords from attacks, but they also served as the military force for the king incase ever needed. Knights were the professional warrior class of Europe, and they had responsibilitys for defending their lord's territory from rivals. They also had to keep the local people in line with the lord's rule. Knights were often members of the noble class, which could be granted as a reward for chivalrous deeds performed. The role the Samurai had in Japan was they lived by "bushido," which ment they represented a code of honor and courageousness. They were skilled in war, they came into political power, and they protected the land. They also promoted Zen Buddhism and meditation, which to them, gave them strength within battle. Samurai were also inspiration for art styles, as they often represented through ink paintings, rock gardens and poetry. Some samurai even became monks.
