In early colonial america thousands of men , women and children were rudely kidnapped from their families so there would be cheap labor on american plantations. At only 11 , Olaudah Equiano was sold into slavery , taken from his mother , his family and his village. He was a happy boy until suddenly he was taken and marched to the seacoast. Unfouturnatly he was not the only one taken. (document 1)

John winthrop, a leader of a larg group of english puritans speaks of in his sermon “A model of christian charity” what he believes the primary motive for settlement was. He wanted himself and his followers to be free of religious persecution. So future generations “may be the better preserved from the common corruptions of this evil world”. James truslow adams believed the primary motive for immigration to colonial new england was for people to better there lives, there conditions and to own land. Everyone had their own reason behind moving to colonial america , but mainly everyone just wanted a fresh start and a new beginning with endless opportunities. (document 4 & 5
