Immediacy is a stylistic characteristic of Northern Europe 1500-1600. Before this period most artists painted their figures in a particular and motionless post, however immediacy has a snapshot effect that brings liveliness into the figures. It appears as if the man in red was weighing gold coins in his shop when this beautiful couple with matching clothes walked in. He appears to be distracted from weighing his gold coins upon the couple's arrival, because his attention is no longer on the money, but on the couple. The shop owner directly looks in the direction of the woman. I say that these two are coupled because of the way the man in the black gown gently place his hand on the woman's shoulders to show the affection he shares with her.
