I used to think European people were completely different than Americans. Not only did I think they talked in to many uncommon languages, I also thought they would wear strange clothes and like to do odd things.
I first learned of the new neighbor boy from one of my close friends. He told me his next door neighbor was the host family for a Spanish kid about our age named Andrés. He was staying in the US for the summer to learn English better. I didn’t think much of the news at first; just how I wanted to meet him and see what he was like. I didn’t get to meet him until a few weeks later. By then I had built up an outlandish idea of what he was going to be like. When I finally met him he looked like a common teenage kid, but I wasn’t convinced.
