Europa NASA's planned Europa mission would conduct detailed reconnaissance of Jupiter's moon Europa and investigate whether the icy moon could harbor conditions suitable for life like if it could hold animals, plants, and so on.
The mission would place a spacecraft in orbit around Jupiter in order to perform a detailed investigation of Europa to help get a better look at the planet and the condition of it. A world that shows strong evidence for an ocean of liquid water beneath its icy crust and which could host conditions favorable for life. The mission would send a highly capable, radiation-tolerant spacecraft into a long, looping orbit around Jupiter to perform repeated close flybys of the icy moon.

There are rock like things cover the ground, and I can’t tell if it is ice. Above the horizontal, half of Jupiter occupies one third of the sky, and the Sun is just a small bright spot that is much smaller than the Sun we can see on Earth. Weather condition seems mild because it is peace and quiet outside. But in fact, there’s no atmosphere on Europa. Because of this, Europa can’t regulate its temperature to a moderate level.…

There is Another Jupiter and We Have a Photo of It! In a solar system far away, there is a planet which is quite similar to Jupiter and some believe that they are something like siblings. Scientists have taken a photograph of a big planet which is supposed to reveal clues about Jupiter-y planets and their creation and planetary siblings. At a distance of 96 light years from Earth, the planet which is known as 51 Eribani b, was photographed by the Gemini Planet Imager, which, according to the Wikipedia, is a high contrast imaging instrument that was built for the Gemini South Telescope in Chile.…

Combined, the 69 moons of various composition orbit the planet. The most interesting of the moons are the first four moons discovered beyond Earth, the Galilean Moons. Jupiter’s four largest moons are called the Galilean moons named after Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei who first observed them in 1610. The moons are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto and their names come from the lovers of Zeus. Ganymede, Io, and Europa are all in orbital resonance with Jupiter.…

These spacecrafts include: Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, Voyager 2, Galileo, Ulysses, Cassini-Huygens, New Horizons, and Juno. “Most of the probes that studied Jupiter had multiple mission objectives — Pioneer 10 also studied the asteroid belt, and then flew past Jupiter to study more distant regions of the solar system. But Jupiter is the primary focus of the Juno mission. The probe will come closer to the top of Jupiter's colorful clouds than any probe before it, and after about 20 months of observation, Juno will end its mission by crashing into the gas giant”(Cofield). Not all of these spacecrafts were successful but the fact that there were so many sent out to learn about Jupiter proves that Jupiter is a very intriguing…

Jupiter and Saturn are gas planets whereas Uranus and Neptune are ice planets. One of the most talked about bodies is one of the more than 63 orbiting satellites of Jupiter named Europa. This satellite (or moon) is very large and is covered in ice but has a vast ocean underneath the ice. All of these planets and the large moons around Jupitar have also been mapped by satellites that we have sent out. The Oort Cloud is also located here and is 1.6 light years from the Sun and is the source of the Solar System’s long-period comets.…

The ultimate goal of Avant Garde is to find evidence of life on Europa, based on the underlying assumption that it is possible for life to thrive where there is water. Life on Earth is made possible only in an environment with very specific conditions: a delicate balance of select elements such as hydrogen, water, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous, and calcium. Collectively, these atoms essentially constitute the entire human body and may be the foundation of life on another planet. We seek to determine whether life elsewhere requires the same chemical composition, or if completely different atoms and chemical bonds are utilized. In doing such research, we may make discoveries about how the human body operates at a molecular level, possibly leading…

One painting that really caught my eye is the painting Jupiter and Thetis by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (Getlein, 2016). This painting was inspired from Homer’s Iliad, “The Greek epic of the Trojan War (Getlein, 2016).” Without knowing what it really means you can tell more or less what is happening based off of the artists creativity. From first sight, you can see A man sitting in a throne which depicts royalty.…
