Eulogy As Leo Tolstoy once said, “If you want to be happy, be”. This was one of Raj’s favorite quotes because it explained the mindset he had towards life. Raj was the most positive, easy going, and enthusiastic person I knew. No matter what obstacles Raj was facing in life he always found a way to be happy and he didn’t let anything get him down because he believed that there was no point in being sad if happiness is always an option. Even during his crazy college years when he had tons of exams and assignment that he could stress over he always had a positive attitude and knew that he could accomplish whatever he put his mind to. Not only was Raj a very positive person he was a very caring, trustworthy, and honest person I ever had the …show more content…
Every one of Raj’s friends and cousins knew Raj as the planner. He always wanted to do something and would always have a way of convincing everyone to do something. That is one reason all of his friends and cousins appreciated him so much because he made sure that everyone would spend time together. One of my favorite memories of him convincing me to do something was at a park called Turner Falls in Oklahoma because we were only about 13 at the time, but somehow he convinced me to hike to the top of the waterfall in swimming shorts and it ended up being the best hike I have ever been on. In regards, to his academic life Raj has always been a hard worker. All throughout elementary and middle school he got all A’s and in high school he was valedictorian of his graduating class at the School of Business and Management. His success in high school allowed him to be accepted into the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin, which is one of the best business schools in the country. Lastly, even though Raj was taken from us too soon he was able to have a fairly successful professional life due to his tutoring business I mentioned before. He tutored over 20 different students with his business in different areas of math ranging from Algebra to Calculus. I even asked one of his students how much they liked Raj and they said he was the best teacher they ever had due to his

Ralph Waldo Emerson was a great believer in the idealistic movement called transcendentalism. In many of his literature works, Emerson includes transcendental thoughts, such as in one of his essays from a collection of essays, Self-Reliance. In that essay, Emerson emphasizes the importance of individualism when he said not to “seek for things outside of yourself” which means that each person should trust themselves and their intuition and to not go searching in other people for that (Emerson 19). Emerson also goes to explain that “envy is ignorance” and “imitation is suicide” meaning that trying to be someone else rather than your own self is a tragedy. “What I must do is all that concerns me, not what the people think” ( 23).…

Both of my parents are the first born and got married at a young age, so my brother and I had the pleasure of being the first for EVERYTHING. He took the title of the first grandchild along with grandson, while I had granddaughter. We didn’t stay by ourselves very long, after I was born, one year later we added one more boy, then three more years another one, which was great, but I hated being the only girl. Being the only girl meant that I had no say on what we did, they outnumbered me so I learned more about spies, games and cars than I did about dolls. I was the girl that had to learn to take a hit, throw a football, play basketball and stand up for myself and with the help of my upbringing, my faith brought me to believe that I can do all things.…

John Stuart Mill’s philosophy of happiness is true in ways that following his logic will lead to unfound joys. From personal observations that make us ask where do some people become so happy or have the ease in life that others do not are answered by what Mill says. Asking ourselves if we really are happy is a chain of events that can disillusion us with doubt and will lead us to reassess why we are not happy. The article In Pursuit of Happiness by Darrin M. McMahon, the author compliments Mill’s quote with similar ideas like doing something beneficial to society will compensate in joy. John Stuart Mill’s quote is true about happiness by asserting that humans must pull away from thinking about being happy and the judgment on whether they are really happy or not by explaining his method to find a real and eternal happiness.…

“There’s More to Life Than Being Happy” is a journal article that was written by Emily Esfahani Smith. It was published on January 9, 2013. Its purpose is simply to explain to the audience that, ‘It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness’ (Smith 2013). I very much enjoyed this journal article because after reading it I felt that I had actually connected to it. For example, a big topic that she focused on while writing this article, was that being happy dealt with “taking”, while living a meaningful life, dealt with “giving” (Smith 2013).…
