Eulogy For Jesus's Death

Decent Essays
Cheryl,
I appriecated the way you included that Jesus's death was because of how much he loves us. Jesus sacrificed so that we no longer need to make sacrafices to be able to be in relationship with Him. Jesus died so the we could come to him without any impurities in the way holding us back from being close to him. He wants to accept us as we are, love us, and teach us how to become more like him.

Humanity, because of its fallen nature, needs the mediation of another person—a divine and human person. The only being who can mediate this journey of communion between man and God is Christ; he has been able to make the one perfect and acceptable sacrifice to God. Jesus’ obedient sacrifice of his life to God the Father was able not only to redeem humanity, but it also gives perfect glory to the Father. The priestly sacrifice of Jesus’ body and blood on the cross goes beyond the formal ritual sacrifices of the Levitical priesthood. Christ’s oblation to the Father accomplishes two specific objectives besides winning for him admission into the heavenly sanctuary.…

“The Flower for the Graves” and Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Eulogy for the Martyred Children” portray the same message; racism has gone too far. During the times of racial havoc, four girls were brutally murdered by “some brutal fool who didn’t know any better” (Patterson). The man who killed these innocent girls was influenced by the public ideas that black people were inferior to the rest of society and thought he did a righteous act. Yet, “the bombing proved to be a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement” (Jackson). This caused people in Birmingham to see the savagery of racism which caused them to create a revolution of peace and equality.…

One reason for this is that the interval between his death and resurrection (i.e. the three days) proves that Jesus was genuinely dead. By showing “His once dead body immortal and incorruptible” to the disciples, Christ is able to offer them, and the rest of humanity, undeniable proof of the abolishment of death. With the fear of death now annihilated, Christian disciples (i.e. men, women, and children) are “prefer[ing] to die rather than to deny their faith in Christ,… [because they know] full well that when they die they do not perish, but live… and become incorruptible through the resurrection.” Another proof of the power of the resurrection is that many former unbelievers and deriders of Jesus have become believers, and some of those new disciples have become martyrs for their faith in Jesus. These types of witnesses make it hard to deny and doubt that Christ has risen and now lives.…

“Christology for the New Millennium” First, “Christology is the theological study devoted to answering two main questions: Who is Jesus? (the question of his identify) also What is the nature and significance of what Jesus accomplished in the incarnation? (the question of his work). Now, the meaning of Millennium refers to the thousand-year reign, to anticipate that the new millennium will occur at some future time (Grenz 25, 79). By examining a piece of literature, a reader can discover multiple patterns that enhance the story, their understanding of the piece and the experience it brings in general. The novel, How to Read Literature like A Professor, by Thomas C. Foster, describes and discusses many, varying patterns. One pattern he calls, “acts of communion”, explains how food and meals in a literary work can have a more significant purpose than just eating normally suggests. In addition, this novel discussed the uses of Christ figures in literature and the different characteristics that suggest the author’s intentions on comparing a character in their work with Jesus Christ. Both of these patterns are shown in the novel, A Lesson Before Dying, by Ernest J. Gaines.…

When I think of why Christ performed the atonement, I think of myself and others around me all in different walks of life each equally loved and valued. Christ’s atonement reaches out to each one. His atonement covers not only our natural tendency to sin to make mistakes but also helps us to lift ourselves up and forward in life. Through His atonement, we are able to work on becoming better and casting away sin, while at the same time work toward becoming more like Him. As we cast our natural tendencies off and seek for strength to do things we normally would not chose to do, His atonement strengthens us.…

This is considered to be the greatest act of redemption in the New Testament when God gave His one and only perfect son to die on a cross so that we might one day live with God for eternity.
