Eulogy For Grandmother

She stood about 5’4, had grey hair and brown eyes. You could almost always catch her in her white tennis shoes, black loose pants and some t-shirt that had words on it. Her common words would be “I need to go change my shirt and comb my hair.” Then she would proceed to change shirts and would comb her grey short afro style hair, every Friday going to the hair dresser to get it curled …show more content…
She was graduating June 3, 2017 so we were leaving May 31st. I asked Mom to go over to Grandma’s house so I could say goodbye. I remember walking out of the house and saying to myself “Remember this, it might be the last.” So I remembered her leaning up against the table and saying goodbye. I quickly pushed the idea about it being the last because she was going to live forever. We made it down to Texas and saw Ashley graduate June 3rd. our grandparents called to say that they had watched the graduation online and how they were both so proud of

Every Christmas Eve our family gathers around the coffee table in our apartment in New York City. During the day we go to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and buy chocolate candies from the Greenwood Pastry on the corner. Uncle Riley leads the way as we walk the streets until the light begins to fade between the office towers and the crippled gargoyles forever perched on the corners of the buildings that illuminate a golden age gone by. Eulogy It never occurred to me that I would be up here so soon, talking about my Grandmother, Joyce White instead of celebrating her birthday with her and talking about the good old times when I was a little girl. I remembered my Grandmother as a beautiful lady with long black dark hair, rosy cheeks and red lips. She was not your typical grandma who baked cookies, stay in the house all day and knit sweaters, she was a woman who enjoyed life to its fullest. I used to remember when I was a little girl, I would love when my grandma comb my hair, she would plait my hair and when she is done, I would say to her, “Mama do not forget to fix my baby hair at the front with the brush,” she would smile and say “yes Kay, I did not forget.” She was a…
