I remember being woken up by my mom, seeing her smiling, as always. She had always been a joyful member of The New World, always finding the best in the worst situations. But when she greeted me that morning, she didn’t know that smile would soon be wiped off her face.
The morning of my 16th birthday started exactly like that, a good morning. I woke up to my brother, mom, and dad all sitting at the table anxiously waiting for breakfast. We always ate as a family, no matter what was going on in our individual lives. I looked around and smiled, grateful for what God had given me. I see you’ve made a new friend, please introduce her, please!” he pleads.
“Dad.. this is Elise” I say as I pull up her sleeve, “They’re identical”
All of the color drained from his face, just as it did mine when I made the discovery. There was a long pause before he finally approached the situation.
“This has never happened in the history of The New World, this must be a fluke, maybe when you got the shot as a baby it was mixed up with..” he started.
“Dad, you know the tattoos don’t lie,” I interrupted. “Although we are both girls, it doesn’t mean that we can’t be together. Right? Science doesn’t lie.”
“I know in my heart that this is what God intended, but I just don’t understand why it has to be you. This is unbelievable, I’m in shock.”
After a long conversation debating our next move, we finally came to an agreement. We decided that we didn’t want people other than ourselves to tell the story. Someone could twist it and change everything. So we decided to gather every citizen of The New World to the church to make the announcement that would change
