From the Renaissance to the French Revolution, for instance, manners were an essential aspect of the idea of civilization and were thought worthy of the serious attention of intelligent men (Curtin 396). As time has passed, etiquette has become a combination of good manners, common sense, and rules of conduct. It now has less to do with who is in power and guided more towards putting others at ease. The problem is within the individual to think that its ok to be rude and aggressive to others and that there are no consequences to it. What sort of pride is there on getting something on the cost of others? With the learning of etiquette and manners comes the learning of responsibility and understanding of right and wrong. If students communicated with each other and helped each other out of curtesy for one another, imagine how low the depression and suicide rates would be among teens because they don’t feel ignored. The emphasize on manners and etiquette at an early age could potentially alleviate stresses down the road on the kid’s future. They will have a better understanding about the people on their surroundings and most importantly about themselves. They will have overall better communication skills, respect, customs, courtesies, and last but not least dignity.
