One very strong appeal, especially to creative writer, is pathos, the ability to appeal to the reader 's emotions. I have learned emotions are a universal entity, and they are a key way to relate to your readers through stories or an analytical sense. I wrote a story for narrative in writing, “The Color Love Gives”, which is about a young boy who becomes very close to an older couple. But as time goes on, so does life, and in life there is loss. The characters have to deal with temporarily losing the color that death took from them, though they don 't know how to, for the love was just too strong. “I came to the receiving line where Johnny stood... He stood there, broken. He had lost the one color he had seen most of his life. It seemed blindness had taken him. Everyone told him to ‘stay strong’, but I don’t know how he could. Was it shock that kept him composed, or just the will of a man who longed for his vibrant sight again?” In the interest of initiating emotions, writers have to rejuvenate events, events in which trigger an ardentual …show more content…
Within the class, I have learned that ethos and logos go hand in hand with one another. While logos discloses that facts, ethos gives those facts a source to help solidify its credibility. Besides teaching me the basis of what ethos is, Writing 102 has signified its important to include citations on all cited work, whether they are formatted in footnotes, endnotes, or a bibliography. In another paper I wrote in Writing 102 was in regards to the article, “Rural > City > Cyberspace”, to where my task was to discuss how the author used rhetoric appeals, when he considered technologies effects on human cognition. “Carr quotes the Marc Berman, a noted psychologist and a published study in psychological science, as well as Antonio Damasio, the director of USC’s Brain and Creativity Institute. By including a quote from Damasio, and by giving his credentials, the reader can now know that his word and research is credible, due to his profession, as well as his research.” In this quote I share Nicholas Carr’s ability to utilize ethos, to his advantage, furthering his reputation as a validated writer, and giving his audience conception that what he writes is genuine. With this in my paper I was able to exhibit my knowledge of ethos, and the capability I have in determining what can be categorized as the appeal
