A little 50 gunned ship of the British Royal Navy sets sail to its colonies in the Americas. But with stories of the legendary sea creature going around the ship, and crew members worrying that they might encounter the beast. Capt. Alger tells the origin of the legendary sea creature. And how to kill it.

Capt. Alger: How many days do you think we've been on these waters.

Capt. Aldrich: To many.

Capt. Alger: When we get to the colonies, I’m gonna have some local tea.

Capt. Aldrich: If we ever get to the colonies, you know what waters we're sailing on.

Capt. Alger: Yes I know, the crew even knows, and that is why I will be making a speech to the crew, telling them how to kill the beast from hell if we ever do encounter it.

Alger: Listion up, I am aware of all of your concerns regarding the frighting beast that terrorizes theses waters. I’m also aware we’re not a really big ship of any sort, quite frankly we happen to be one smallest the Royal Navy has to offer. But we still have a chance, here let me explain. In the 1400’s the first sightings of the beast were occurring. Tales of sailors who somehow managed to survive the encounter with the beast describe it as being almost like a island that moves with tentacles attached. Though it is not as big as a small island of any sort. It is still big, the beast is said to feed on whales, which could help explain why it attacks ships. It mistakens ships as whales and by the time the beast realizes it has a hold of a ship, it’s too late. Now how do we go about starddling it or even killing it. Reports in the past indicate that you want to go for the tentacles, don’t let it tip the ship over or worse sink it . They are the ones that cause the most damage. And if the creature fully surfaces, aim for its gigantic eyes, blind it. And some say if you aim torwards the back of the beast, you can pierce its heart. If you do all of that, we might have a good chance of surviving.

Capt. Aldrich: Any questions

Cabin boy#1: Yes, I have one, this all seems impossible for such a small ship and crew!

Cabin boy#2: Yea I agree, were likely to die in these waters!

Cabin boy# Why did I ever signed up be part of the new world.

Narrator: While the crew was busy

Chase’s tenacity was not a trait possessed by all of the men on the whaleboats. For example, two months after the sinking of the Essex, Richard Peterson decided it was his time to die. He refused his daily ration of bread by saying, “it may be of service to someone but can be none to me” (163). The incident with Peterson demonstrates that hope and perseverance were all that stood between these men and death. Chase’s perseverance was shown in the way he tried to move past his shipmate’s death by uplifting the morale of his crew.…

By the end of the night, after they caught up with the different backgrounds and design layouts which they knew was a love affair Merrick had with the sea, a strange connection like they've never seen before and of course his unique way to set sails so successfully. They couldn't help but agree with everything Merrick was saying. But, Gret brings up a very good point, “After you get a chance to see what they have, and you sound like not really wanting to share your knowledge to help them better design their ships and fix their sails, I can't help but wonder how safe your ship is at night amongst these other sailors?” She then goes on and explains a story she heard growing up of being aware of others who might be jealous of you and always watch for those who think they should have the best at all costs. She expressed her concern about not only the sailors taking Merrick's ship and its sails but someone out there who would hire these sailors to take his ship to attempt to replicate its…
