Anne Frank once wrote, “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” This quote comes from a very inspirational individual. As one may know, Anne Frank was a Jewish Teenager who lived during the Holocaust. Anne, in addition to seven other Jews lived in this cramped space for over two years. While she was a teenager, adolescent Anne kept track of her daily life in a journal. The journal which was discovered after she later died of illness in a concentration camp, was complete with experiences of life while in hiding. A young girl who most of her life was exposed to pure evil, had unrelenting hope for mankind and the world. This provokes the thought of how minuscule our problems stand. Anne Frank instills a trust in the reader which is known as ethos. An individual can trust this quote because it comes from a very well-known person. Throughout school pupils have read the Diary of Anne Frank. Her diary teaches an important part of history, and shows discrimination aside from racial aspects. From what is known about her, she was a good-hearted positive individual. There is nowhere in history that speaks negatively of her, or anything that she did that was harmful. Negative remarks are only made about her group as a whole, which sadly included her. Therefore, she can be viewed as a role model in the classroom. Although she did not use an impressive vocabulary in this quote, the phrasing overall displays intelligence. It also is assembled in a way that individuals today would not write it. For example, if someone today would of wrote it, it could say, “after literally everything, I think people are still like good at heart.” Even though her vocabulary wasn’t impressive it still sounds more intelligent that it would today. With this being said, the dialect used gives her credibility. Another reason that this quote can be trusted, is because it was not written recently. Inspirational quote, when googled delivers pages full of results. By the same token, if it was not a trusted quote that people agreed with, it would not come up in the search. Also, if it was not credible it would’ve been disproved by now and …show more content…
One the appeals to pathos used is guilt. Guilt can be present because living in the United States in 2018, most problems that we face are minor. Most of the wrong doings that people worry about are acts such as not holding the door or not tipping on a bill. These acts that seem like a big deal are nothing compared to the challenges that Anne faced. Living in this country is taken for granted. It should be appreciated that most people cannot relate to her situation. However, the lack of the extremes have made the United States a nation of sensitive individuals. Guilt should be felt when reading this quote. Problems we face today are miniscule, and it needs brought to our attention. She was facing death and persecution. She faced bombings daily and hid in a cramped space for a portion of her life. Grudges were not held for the wrong that was done. Instead she was thankful for the acts of kindness done for her. Another thing that can be taken from this quote is the lengths a simple act of kindness can go. Most of her days were filled with war, fear, and fighting. However, she took the small parts of her day and made them a big part of her outlook on life. This should inspire one to look at life the same way. To overlook the negative parts in life such as mass shootings, rape, and murder. Look past those hurtful events and stop thinking about how people are terrible. Think about acts of kindness like
