Ethos In An Inconvenient Truth

When the phrase “an inconvenient truth” is stated, the immediate expectation is that one will soon hear something that will go against their beliefs and norms. They fear they will have to stop the behavior they normally carry out and revise their current course of action to accommodate this new “inconvenient truth”. The creator of “An Inconvenient Truth”, Al Gore, utilizes this fear to spread his belief of global warming and its effects on our world. Initially, Al Gore wanted to become the President of the United States, a platform he planned to use as a way to warn the public about global warming. His attempts at presidency failed, but he did succeed as Bill Clinton’s running mate in the presidential elections of 1992 and again in 1996. His new role of Vice President of the United States aided his goal of educating the people about global warming. In 2006 Al Gore released his movie “An Inconvenient Truth”, which created a large movement of support towards a “greener earth”. By December 10, 2007, Gore was awarded a Nobel Prize for his efforts towards Global Warming and the programs he had supported. In the first poster the smoke coming from the factory morphs into a picture of a hurricane. The hurricane above the factory symbolizes the affect pollution has on the earth’s weather. This pollution is causing deadly natural disasters to occur. Our over use of a factory and the substance that it creates causes the atmosphere to act abnormal, generating more natural disasters. In the second poster, the penguins walking on sand symbolizes climate change. The ice glaciers, that were once the home of the animals, are melting. This is pushing the penguins, and other animals, out of their habitats. The poster leads you to realize that global warming isn’t just affecting humans.
