Pathos can be described as an appeal to emotion. Pathos not only persuades using emotional responses but is used to sway people’s views in a way that cannot be achieved by either logos or pathos. There is no logic involved in pathos and leaves the audience with no reason to reject the opinion in front of them. Lewis uses Pathos in “The Abolition of Man” a bit differently than others would in a persuasive work. Lewis will provide an argument with lots of appeals to logos, and then reinforce that argument with a portion of emotional appeal.…

For example, he starts by giving an example of how smallpox, a once deadly disease has been eliminated through the use of vaccines, giving a poor person the ability to live a long and healthy life just like a rich person did, at the height of the smallpox disease. Specter specifically notes, “A kid born in New Delhi today can expect to live as long as the richest man did 100 years ago.” In the middle of the speech, he gives examples of how the US society is now free of measles, a disease that wiped out entire populations hundreds of years back.…

Bleh, locking down a clear understanding of ethos, pathos, and logos took a significant amount of time and research. In a basic Google search of rhetoric and web design, many sources stated that logos was the layout and ease of use of a website. The ethos, on the other hand, was how "professional" the website looked.…
