Ethnography Of A Girl-Personal Narrative

A girl in colorful clothes posed, smiling with rosy cheeks. Staring back at her, I felt something warm and soothing. Her outfit, whatever it was, spoke to me enough that I searched the tags for something that would lead me to more. Basic things like ‘cute fashion.’ Then, ‘Fairy kei’ grasped my attention. I tapped it to reveal a wonderland of gently colored clothes and 80s themes, legwarmers, and scrunchies. Girls with silky pigtails, bangs resting on their foreheads, sprinkled with an abundance of clips and bows. I was overwhelmed with the excitement

Although there were many, my most memorable Girls State memory by far was running for office. I ran for state Attorney General. Attaining the position of a state office is extremely challenging at Girl’s State. If you chose to run for a state office, like I did, you have to campaign against 400 other girls. I had to go through many different interviews, including a “rapid fire” Q&A session.…

My Ethnography My own personal theme is about resilience. Throughout my life I have shown evidence of resilience by overcoming challenges such as being on poverty and not being able to pay bills for a while, sometimes needing to borrow money from others. To overcome the obstacles I gave my family hope inspiration because of how hard I was working in school so I made them think that if I can get decent grades in school and still have lots of free time to do my chores, rest and do things that I like. I have seen lots of people in poverty in my neighborhood because they aren’t always able to get new clothes or shoes when they need it the most.…

When I sit on my small gray couch located behind my tall, grand windows, with my palm under my chin, I imagine a life unique to the one I hold now. My dark brown eyes, wide and vivid, begin to perceive a setting beyond the vast, green trees of my backyard, as I imagine myself on top of a mountain, observing the beautiful view from beneath my toes. As I leap into the field of flowers below, I begin to feel unstoppable, as if no barriers or misconceptions can force me to wither up and perish, like a rose without water. When I daydream, I become Kwame Nkrumah. I reclaim my identity, dancing past the long, and lanky arms that try to clutch and destroy my wings.…

The first girl I ever kissed was the daughter of a woman who frequented my parent’s hat shop. I was thirteen years old and we had escaped into the alley beside the shop. Her mother was taking her time perusing the hats: hats with wide brims, big feathers, funny textures. My family was very successful; hats were an important commodity to the women of Vienna, even to those that typically upturned their noses at my family. The approaching war distanced itself further from me each time a woman bought a hat and exited the shop with her lips upturned in a satisfied smile.…
