Ethnography: Einstein Bros. Bagels In The Trojan Center

Einstein’s Ethnography For my ethnography essay, I decided to write about the bagel and coffee shop Einstein Bros. Bagels in the Trojan Center. I have chosen to do my study here because I eat and complete homework here every day. I have never heard of Einstein Bros. Bagels until coming to Dakota State University, so I thought it would be an interesting thing to learn about. I wanted to see the type of people that come through here whether they be professors, college students, or just your everyday people. I arrived at Einstein’s around 10 a.m. on a Wednesday. The first thing I noticed was the color scheme of Einstein’s as it makes you feel right at home. It has some type of light yellow walls with a mixture of light green. The main counter is a soft brown with a small circular design at the top accented with black paint. The tables and chairs accent the shop well; the chairs are painted some kind of grayish green and the tables are a light brown. I believe the owners of the store had planned the color the way they did because they want people to feel at home and stay a while. …show more content…
Even though it is primarily a bagel shop, it mainly smelled like coffee. Also, traces of bagels and even a caramel type of smell hit me; it smelled somewhat like a scented candle. Looking around, I noticed the wall of large windows which leads out to an open space that consists of construction going on and a large open area next to a building of dorm rooms. I think the windows make the store feel bigger than it actually is and bring in an environmental feel, which matches well with the color scheme. I also noticed the lighting which consists of cylinder like shades hanging from the ceiling and a row of lights pointing at the main

    The Meatpacking District is one of my favorite neighborhoods in NYC because of how hip it is and how it is packed with steel and glass lofts, with sun pouring though the oversized windows.
